POPLARVILLE - A Pearl River Community College student has a received a prestigious scholarship through Phi Theta Kappa.
Gineca Garriga of Catahoula received the Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise scholarship for the spring 2012 semester.
"I was shocked and excited," she said about the $1,000 award.
Garriga is a sophomore who plans to major in chemical engineering at Mississippi State University after graduating from PRCC.
She is secretary-treasurer of the Iota Mu PTK chapter on the Poplarville campus.
Coca-Cola awards up to 180 Leaders of Promise scholarships annually to community college students.
